Pop star Proby court case adjourned

PJ Proby did not show up for court

Pop star PJ Proby failed to appear in court today to face charges of cheating the benefits system out of more than £47,000.

Magistrates in Worcester adjourned the case against the 72-year-old singer until February after receiving a letter from his solicitor asking for more time to prepare for the proceedings.

The 1960s star, whose real name is James Marcus Smith, faces a total of nine charges spanning November 2002 to March 2008.

PJ, who lives in Twyford, near Evesham, Worcestershire, has yet to enter a plea to any of the counts, which relate to claims for Pension Credit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.

The charges include two counts of failing to declare savings and investments, as well as four of failing to inform the authorities of a change in circumstances.

Taurus:

An embarrassing secret will come to light, affecting your reputation. Somebody who once admired you will now turn away in dismay. Instead of trying to win their affection again, lay low for a wee while. You'll make a much better impression by letting your actions speak for themselves. There is a chance this relationship is beyond redemption. If your former friend decides to keep their distance, you will have no other choice than to respect their feelings. Better luck next time.More
