Rihanna has confessed she still "truly" loves her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
The We Found Love singer - who was attacked by Chris in 2009 which resulted in him being sentenced to five years' probation and a restraining order being put in place - gave a tearful interview to Oprah Winfrey which aired on US television at the weekend.
Rihanna, 24, said: "I'm single, but we have maintained a very close friendship since the restraining order has been dropped. It's not easy."
She added: "I truly love him. And the main thing for me is that he is at peace. I'm not at peace if he is unhappy or he is still lonely. I care. It actually matters that he finds peace."
Rihanna confirmed reports that she and Chris - who is now dating model Karrueche Tran - had met up in the South of France earlier this summer.
She said: "We went to a mutual friend's party on a yacht. It's awkward because I still love him."
The singer added that when she is around Chris she has to "maintain this poker face."
It was previously revealed that Rihanna had said she felt "angry, hurt and betrayed" after the R&B star assaulted her before the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in 2009.
"It was embarrassing, it was humiliating. I lost my best friend," she said.
