Robbie explains Australia absence

Robbie Williams reportedly blamed drugs when asked why he hasn't been to Australia in eight years.

The Go Gentle singer has jetted Down Under for the first time since 2006, flying into Perth ahead of his eagerly-awaited shows in the city.

Upon his arrival, the star was asked what had kept him away for so long and, according to the Daily Mirror, he replied: "Drugs. Drugs and other great things I've been up to."

Robbie, who has been open about his previous addiction problems, thanked the press for turning up to greet him and went on: "It's good to see I'm still famous."

The singer - who has become a dad with wife Ayda Field since his last trip to Australia - also revealed he was hoping the Aussies embraced him.

"I want everybody to fall in love with me again. Please," said the 40-year-old.
