Tegan And Sara music star Sara Quin has said it's no problem working with her identical twin.

The Canadian indie-pop band, who released their seventh studio album, Heartthrob, earlier this year, consist of twins Tegan and Sara.

Sara said modern technology helped the twins avoid conflict.

"Because of modern technology, we've been able to exchange songs and collaborate in a very modern, computerised way.

"I think that has allowed us to avoid some of the conflict and tensions which would happen if we were in the same room all the time! But the tension and the compromise aren't really negative things - they're just part and parcel of making this band what it is."

Sara admitted that the sisters are competitive, but that it isn't a problem.

"We've always been each other's biggest fan ... we are competitive, but in the most positive of ways.

"We're always trying to impress each other, but not to 'win'; just to help elevate the project. If Tegan sends me songs and they're fantastic, it makes me want to go in and write a better song.

"I use the analogy that Tegan and I are like tennis players - without the opponent hitting the ball back, we don't have a game. The harder she plays, the harder I play as well."
