Sean names Jay-Z as dream mentor

Jay Sean is giving young fans music advice

Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Jay-Z would be Jay Sean's favoured mentors.

The Mobo-nominated British rapper would have liked to receive advice from the US superstars at the start of his career.

"For me, it's about vocalists - if I can have someone teach me and give me advice, having people who are just so great at what they do like Mariah Carey and Beyonce, who are beautiful vocalists and Jay-Z who is an amazing rapper, is just amazing," he said.

Jay, who has achieved success in the States, added: "I've met all of them now. That's the cool thing about what I do. These are people I used to be a fan of, and some of them are now peers. I learn from them and I ask them questions."

The 29-year-old is lending his experience to Disney XD's Aim High, where he will be mentoring a lucky youngster.

"I can help give these youngsters tips to help them along their way, to help them achieve their goals," he said.

"I never had anything like this when I was growing up or had someone in the industry give me first-hand experience and advice. It's a cool scheme."
