Shakira and Pique welcome baby son

Shakira and Gerard Pique are celebrating the birth of their first child

Shakira and her footballer beau Gerard Pique are celebrating the birth of their son.

Milan Pique Mebarak was born at 9.36pm on Tuesday in Barcelona, Spain.

A statement posted on the Columbian pop star's site said that "just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth".

The statement also said Milan weighed approximately 6lb 6oz (2.9 kilograms), and that "both mother and child are in excellent health".

Shakira asked fans earlier on Twitter "to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life".

On her first child's name, Shakira said Milan was of central European origin and meant "loved, full of grace, loving," in Slavic and "unification" in Sanksrit.

Milan, coincidentally, is also the name of the famous soccer team from that Italian city and Barcelona's next rival in the European Champions League.

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas tweeted a welcome to the baby, saying he "can't wait to meet you."

Pique's grandfather, Amador Bernabeu, told RAC-1 radio that the family was surprised by the choice and confessed he had never heard of the name, adding: "I think Milan will become fashionable".

The grandfather, a former director of the Barcelona club, made sure Milan was registered as a club member as soon as he was born.

Aries:

You will have to defer to others, which makes you anxious. There's never any problem when you're in control. You know how to act quickly and decisively. When others are at the helm, progress grinds to a halt. People deliberate endlessly over simple matters. Instead of putting pressure on the person in charge, make a strategic retreat. If you act like you don't care about the outcome of a situation, they won't be paralysed with uncertainty. You have a tendency to make people nervous.More
