Simpson to release solo album

Charlie Simpson - who opted to miss out on the lucrative McBusted collaboration - is to release a new solo album.

The former Busted singer chose not to team up with his old band and their pals McFly for a series of sell-out shows and a headline appearance in London's Hyde Park this summer.

Instead he will issue second album Long Road Home on July 14, little over a week after McBusted play their biggest show at the outdoor British Summer Time event.

It comes three years after his previous release. Busted split in January 2005 just days after he announced he was leaving the band and he went on to front his own band Fightstar, and in turn went solo.

He said of his new release: "This was the hardest record I've ever had to make, no question. I feel like it was an album I had to fight for."

He is also to play a number of small shows in May with an appearance at London's Roundhouse in October.
