Single success for Brit winner Sam

Bastille won best British breakthrough act at the Brits

The "Brit Awards effect" saw changes at the top of the UK single and album charts as home-grown talents Sam Smith and Bastille capitalised on their midweek successes to score number ones.

Success for vocalist Sam's new single Money On My Mind crowns a week in which he was handed the Critics' Choice award at the Brits while pop band Bastille - who walked away with the British Breakthrough Act accolade and performed on the night - returned to the album chart summit with Bad Blood.

Sam's debut solo number one follows his guest appearance as vocalist on Naughty Boy's La La La, which took the top spot in May 2013.

Money On My Mind ends British group Clean Bandit's four-week stay at number one with their dance track Rather Be, which drops to number three.

Pharrell Williams' feelgood hit Happy, which features in the Despicable Me 2 film, remains in the top three after 14 weeks on the chart.

Sam's was one of just four new entries in the Top 40, according to the The Official UK Charts Company.

The second highest new entry, Say Something by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera, features at four while a live recording of Pompeii/Waiting All Night - a collaboration between Bastille and fellow Brits winners Rudimental featuring Ella Eyre performed on Wednesday - enters at 21.

Fame And TV by M.A.D. is the only other new entry, charting at 32.

In the album charts, the top five comprises four Brit Awards winners - with Bastille edging out double winners Arctic Monkeys, whose AM was named British Album Of The Year.

Ellie Goulding, winner of the British Female Solo Artist gong, and British Single winners Rudimental feature at fourth and fifth respectively.

Last week's number one album, Little Red by British songstress Katy B, drops to eighth after seven days at the top.

You may be busy with work and family, but these duties will never let up. If you continue to spend all of your energy on these things, you'll miss a golden opportunity. Ask colleagues and relatives for help with mundane errands while you focus on the long term financial future. If you don't protect your economic interests, nobody else will.More
