Snoop: Marley mellowed my music

Snoop Dogg says Bob Marley influenced his own music

Snoop Dogg has revealed that listening to Bob Marley records helped inject "peace and love" into his own music.

The Snoop's Upside Ya Head rapper walked the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of documentary Marley, made by Scottish director Kevin MacDonald, and told how the legendary reggae singer's tunes had inspired him.

"Just to be able to have peace and love and harmony in the music that I make, that's what I feel like I've gained from listening to Bob Marley's music and being influenced by him," Snoop said.

The two-and-a-half hour documentary follows Marley from his poverty-stricken Jamaican roots to his final days fighting cancer.

Bob's son Ziggy, who executive produced the documentary, said this project was different to other films about his father.

"I am personally intimately involved in it and the family's involved with it so that gives it authenticity and a connection that has never been before," he said.

Ziggy said of the late star: "The message is just about life, you can relate to him on that human level, on that personal level, I think that's the message, that no matter how great a man is, there still are things that are similar to all of our lives, going through hardship, coming out of hardship, it's all there."

The pay will be excellent and there will be a lot of fringe benefits, too. Don't talk about a neighbour's private life in mixed company.More
