Stephen Gately: Exact cause of death will not be known for two weeks

The family of tragic Boyzone star Stephen Gately will have to wait several weeks to determine the exact cause of his sudden death.
Yesterday the results of a post mortem confirmed he died of “natural causes by acute pulmonary oedema”.
But it will be several weeks before it is known whether alcohol or drugs were in his bloodstream when he died.
The post mortem offered no clues about the underlying cause of the oedema and the family of the 33-year-old will have to wait up to a fortnight for further test results.
His death may have been the result of an unknown underlying medical condition but this has yet to be confirmed.
A police source confirmed that the singer had been sick in his Majorca holiday apartment where his body was found on Saturday afternoon.
But a court spokeswoman said that alcohol was not a factor in his death.
“Stephen's death has nothing to do any alcohol he drank that night, it has nothing to do with drugs and he did not choke on his own vomit,” she said.
“If drink or drugs play any part in a death, they always put it in the cause of death.
“In this case they haven't. I'm not saying Stephen didn't vomit but I can categorically state he did not choke on his own vomit.”
It is expected that the test results will be available in around a fortnight.
Yesterday Stephen’s distraught husband Andrew Cowles saw his body for the first time after a judge gave the go-ahead for it to be released to his family.
The 32-year-old was tearful as he left a court in Palma at lunchtime yesterday after giving judge Carmen Abrines a witness statement about what happened in the hours leading up to the discovery of the body.

Well, I was shocked about the Gately's death.I liked very much the song "No matter what" and when I found about this news, on October 17th, I started to find by internet all the information about Boyzone and their colleague, Gately.Indeed, after a few days of non-stop reading articles about their band and Gately, I realised that Boyzone had a star in their team.I must say to Ireland that I started to appreciate and love this band now more than ever, being glad I discovered them in the last days.I do not agree to use offensive or abusive comments to the singer, Gately, just because of his private life.We must respect anyone, even it is about a child, a woman or a man.It is a tragedy in culture now, the music area, with this death.I noticed there are a lot of people who try to judge the Gately's life, but his fans know that this is not our problem (to judge a life).Better is to do something good in this life, not to judge, and Gately done a lot for a good life.We'll miss you, dear star!
