Stephen Gately's husband Andrew Cowles can't go back to death house
Wednesday, 21 October 2009
Stephen Gately's husband Andrew Cowles has returned to the London flat they shared as he struggles to find somewhere peaceful to settle back down.
The devastated partner said that he could not be in Ireland or Majorca because it reminded him too much of his late husband.
Heartbroken Andrew spoke of his sadness for the first time since the star-studded funeral at St Laurence O'Toole Church, near the Boyzone star's inner city childhood home on Sheriff Street.
The internet guru then flew back to London with Stephen's ashes soon after.
Andy (32) spent yesterday morning inside the luxury High Gate, North London home he shared with Stephen.
Although he was visibly upset, he said he had been "taken aback" by the outpouring of public sympathy for Stephen.
When he was asked if he took any comfort from this weekend's emotional ceremony, he said: "Yes there were a lot of well-wishers.
"It's not easy being back, but it's better than being stuck in Majorca or Ireland."
Stephen's Boyzone bandmates appeared equally devastated at the loss of their friend at the funeral Mass when they battled tears as they carried his coffin out of the church.
Stephen's body was found in the couple's plush Majorcan apartment, worth more than €1m.
Police have determined that he died from natural causes -- an acute pulmonary adoema, or a rapid build up of fluid in his lungs.
