Susan Boyle: I hope to inspire

Susan Boyle has said she hopes revealing that she has Asperger's syndrome will have a positive impact on other people's lives.

The singer, who shot to fame after appearing on Britain's Got Talent in 2009, revealed last year that she has been recently diagnosed with the form of autism.

She spent years believing she suffered slight brain damage at birth.

She said: "I don't see my Asperger's as a disability - I see it as an opportunity for people to understand and stop prejudging.

"I hope that the awareness created will help other people to see that just because you have a diagnosis, it doesn't need to limit your opportunities in life. You can go out and achieve whatever you darn well want!"

Susan recently toured the US for the first time and is releasing a new album, which she said reminds her of her first record, I Dreamed A Dream.

She said: "I'm so very lucky... I pinch myself every day."

:: Susan Boyle's new album Hope will be available to buy early from from November 22.
