Susan Boyle has been attempting to play the bagpipes.

The Scottish star puffed out her cheeks as she launched the British Pipe Band Championship and was given the honorary title of "Chieftain of the band", the Daily Mirror reported.

Pipers from across Scotland assembled in Bathgate, West Lothian, to launch the countdown to the May 31 event, which also features solo piping, highland dancing and "heavy" athletics.

Britain's Got Talent star Susan, 52, donned a tartan jacket as she appeared alongside the troop of bagpipers.

The newspaper quoted Games president Matt Purdie as saying: "It is a great honour to welcome Susan Boyle on board as Chieftain for 2014."
