Susan Boyle's got talent, but she's also got a subtle makeover

Voice of an angel: Susan Boyle belts it out on stage

Voice of an angel: Susan Boyle belts it out on stage

After Susan Boyle’s successful appearance in Belfast, Showbiz Correspondent Maureen Coleman reports that the troubled star is sounding, and looking, better than ever

In the superficial world of stardom Susan Boyle was always going to face criticism for failing to conform to the image-led world she suddenly found herself in.

Slated for her dowdy appearance and somewhat eccentric behaviour, the attention soon shifted from her voice onto the more fickle aspects of fame.

The tabloid Press focused on the fact that she had refused to succumb to external pressures to transform her look to make her more media friendly.

And when she was admitted to the Priory Clinic for exhaustion following the final of Britain’s Got Talent, it was just more fodder for the red-tops.

So it was good to see ‘Subo’ back to her best when she performed at the O2 in Dublin and the Odyssey Arena in Belfast this week.

And without sounding patronising, didn’t she look well?

The makeover wasn’t extreme but the subtle changes made such a difference. Gone was the out-of-control hair to be replaced by a soft, feathered cut that framed her face and knocked a few years of her age.

The make-up was natural and light, shimmery silver eyes to match her gown and those heavy brows plucked to reveal a fresher looking face.

The Scottish singing sensation certainly looked more confident than of late as she performed several hits, including I Dreamed A Dream — the Les Miserables song that made her an overnight star.

Without giving in too much to superficial demands Susan has proved that a few tiny tweaks can make all the difference.

In Ireland this week she looked and sang like a woman who’s finally found what she’s been looking for. Let’s hope it stays that way.

Susan looks great! That being said, I don't care what she looks like. Her talent and soul outweigh the looks of any young flash in the pan artist the world can produce.
I can't wait for her first recording.

Susan is not a 'troubled' star!! Following her sensational audition on BGT she gained fans worldwide and was subjected to a media feeding frenzy the like of which is seldom seen. Having recently emerged from a relatively secluded life caring for her aged parents, is it any wonder that she found all the attention, both positive and negative, exhausting? She has clearly dealt with it and is realising her true vocation as a brilliant singer.

I point out that Susan is "troubled" only by the press. If you can't talk about her great talent and the way she inspired the world at such a grey time, then go and comment on someone else. You hacks seem always to find something to criticize - why? Are you such unhappy people?

Susan has beaten you all - she is fit and well, adored by millions. She is also a middle-aged lady, unused to such a long tour. Give her a break. She will perform as and when she can. Bravo Susan!!

Such a pleasure to read something positive about Susan. No wonder she had problems in the early days with some of the nasty and sarcastic comments written about her. She is a beautiful lady both inside and out and what a singer.

I like and love to hear that last ending "In Ireland this week she looked and sang like a woman who’s finally found what she’s been looking for. Let’s hope it stays that way". First, thank you for that sweet article and kind words about Susan. And, yes Let's hope the other tabloids stay that way too, writing nice, kind, gentle articles on her and not attacking her personally. God bless and keep you safe. Good Luck Susan!

Very nice write-up! Susan Boyle has what it takes and knows how to use it, doesn't she! She is truly a star.

Since she originally appeared on Youtube to us in the USA, she seems in this photo to have put on a little makeup. Who doesn't in America? I think she looks fine, but it is not a "makeover" they way we Americans do it! She looks her chronological age now. Perhaps someone finally showed the lady how to do basic makeup, something she had never done before. Why does everyone have to slam her looks? She looks great in this photo!

Susan sounds and looks beautiful. I am so happy she is living her dream. I hope we can soon read articles that no longer feel the need to refer to her dowdy appearance (no longer true) or her brief stay at the Priory. I would love to have the privilege to hear her sing in person and am presently eagerly awaiting her CD. Thank you for noting how well she is performing and how nice she looks. I predict Susan will only get better and better as she has shown great growth in a very short period.

She's a very attractive woman, but the important point is that she is a fabulous singer. And with her recording contract, she can buy and sell any of her critics, or fans for that matter, a thousand times over. She has earned her success. May God bless her greatly.

Troubled? Susan Boyle is not. Susan is the most genuine, honorable and talented performer to hit the stage in a long time. She appears on stage and performs beautifully -- a natural talent. This is a new experience for her and she was exhausted. Why, why, why do so many reporters have to interject negative adjectives to describe the subjects of their stories in what otherwise could be positive articles? Could it be insecurity?

Why make comment of her stay at the clinic? Is OLD news all you have to pad your space?
All you do by the mention of it is add to the fodder you speak of.

If you have nothing better to report perhaps you're in the wrong profession.
