Tennent's Vital: Calvin Harris to headline at Belfast festival

Chart-topping DJ Calvin Harris has been announced as a headline act at Tennent's Vital.

The Scot will take to the stage at this year's festival at Boucher Playing Fields on Saturday 29 August.

He is expected to perform some of his best known hits such as Outside, Under Control, We Found Love and Sweet Nothing at the Bellahouston Park concert.

Confirmation of the headline gig came in the form of a tweet from the global star with the heading: "Tickets on sale Friday!"

Details of further support acts are expected to be unveiled later.

Last year Tennent's Vital ran for two nights and attracted tens of thousands of music fans.

It was headlined by The Killers and David Guetta.

In 2012 a performance by US rock band Foo Fighters sparked complaints from some south Belfast residents at the level of noise.

Background

Tennent's Vital was first held near Botanic Gardens in 2002 then later moved to Ormeau Park in 2007. It then disappeared until August 2011 when it took place at Ward Park in Bangor.

It returned to Belfast in 2012 and has been held at Boucher Road Playing Fields each summer since then. In 2012 the SDLP's Claire Hanna received a number of complaints from local residents about the level of noise.
