The Script death rumour due to Sony Music hacker

Sony Music chiefs were left red-faced after the company's Irish website was hacked with fake news which declared two members of the band The Script dead.

An investigation is under way to examine if external IT supplying the company's online presence out of Dublin was at fault for the cyber attack.

But Sony Music insiders said senior staff do not believe the false posting was hacking designed to disrupt the company's online presence.

In a statement, Sony Music reassured fans of The Script that reports of the deaths of two bandmates were untrue.

"Sony Music Ireland is investigating an incident in which fake news stories appeared on our website," the company said in a statement.
