The Script have starring role for Radio 1’s Academy workshops in Derry

The Script, Wretch 32 and Gabrielle Apin have been confirmed as some of the acts BBC Radio 1 is bringing to Londonderry to help inspire young people ahead of the One Big Weekend.

Stars and crew of BBC1’s EastEnders will also make the trip to Derry for BBC Radio 1’s Academy.

BBC Radio 1 and BBC Learning have confirmed the details of their programme, which will offer up to 5,500 places for young people across Derry and beyond.

Those attending will get the chance to gain skills and experience.

Aimed at 16 to 19-year-olds, it will help young people learn new skills via showcases, workshops and masterclasses. In addition, four nights of BBC Introducing gigs will take place at Radio 1’s Academy.

Hosted by Radio 1 DJs and curated by Across The Line & Electric Mainline these will feature nine new artists from Northern Ireland — Silhouette, Soak, Little Bear, Wonder Villains, Girls Names, Ryan Vail, Axis Of, Gerard i2 and Droids.
