The Who to play cancer charity gig
The Who and Blondie's Debbie Harry will join an all-star line-up at what is billed as the first concert for "killing cancer".
Rock guitarist Jeff Beck and The Verve's Richard Ashcroft will also take to the stage at the show, which is part of a campaign to change the way cancer is treated.
Killing Cancer might not have quite the same ring to it as Live Aid, but organisers hope it will raise valuable funds for research into photodynamic therapy (PDT), which can destroy cancer cells with a single treatment.
The concert, at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo in west London on January 13, is the brainchild of rock concert promoter Harvey Goldsmith and Bill Curbishley, who has managed The Who and Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant.
Beck said: "I am pleased to be asked to support such a vital cause. Any new breakthrough in cancer treatment should be taken very seriously and we want as many people to know about that as possible.
"The concert is not just going to raise funds to pay for new PDT trials, but will also help raise public awareness."
