The xx play first post-Mercury gig

Oliver Sim of Mercury Prize-winning The XX

The xx have played their first gig after winning the Mercury Prize, and announced it would be their last for a long time.

The London trio played in the Big Top tent at Bestival on the Isle of Wight, filling the tent to its capacity, and leaving hundreds of fans having to watch from outside.

Singer Oliver Sim spoke only to thank the crowds, saying: "It's our first time here, thank you for bringing us here."

He later said it would be their last gig for a while, and festival organiser Rob Da Bank wrote on Twitter: "The xx manager's just told me could be their last live gig for a year at least, poss two."

The band played songs from their debut album, sampling ATB hit 9pm Til I Come during the song Shelter.
