Thicke: Timberlake has helped me
Robin Thicke has said that Justin Timberlake has helped his career, despite the pair constantly being compared.
The Canadian singer is frequently likened to chart star Justin, with people seeing similarities in their voices and styles, but Robin insisted that it hasn't been detrimental, reported Vibe.com.
During an interview with US radio station Hot 97, Robin discussed the timing of Justin's music comeback and how it affected his own upcoming release, Blurred Lines.
"He actually helped me a lot because his sound went more RnB and more soulful, and that's what I've been doing my whole career," he said. "It really opened up the door."
Robin also said it was to be expected that the pair are compared.
He explained: "The thing is him and I grew up with the same influences: Michael Jackson/Prince era, a lot of Marvin Gaye. And we're just both white kids who grew up in a hip-hop generation. So I think it's natural that we're going to have some similarities."
But he joked that he hopes there is room for both of them in the number one chart position, laughing: "Leave a little room for me at the top, Justin."
Earlier this month Robin scored his first UK number one with the fastest-selling single of the year so far. Blurred Lines, featuring TI and Pharrell Williams, sold 190,000 copies in its first week on sale to reach the top spot.
