U2 slash prices of concert tickets
Monday, 9 March 2009
U2 today promised tens of thousands of cut-price tickets for a wave of summer concerts across Ireland and the UK.
The Irish rockers said they have developed a "unique and original" stage for their 360-degree tour and will release recession-busting, low-cost tickets so all fans can see it.
"U2 have always been at their best when surrounded by their audience. This staging takes a giant leap forward," said the band's manager Paul McGuinness.
"With 85% of the tickets priced at less than 95 euro (£87), general admission floor tickets priced at 55 euro (£50) and at least 10,000 tickets at every venue priced at around 30 euro (£27), we have worked very hard to ensure that U2 fans can purchase a great-priced ticket with a guaranteed great view."
Bono and his bandmates will play a homecoming in Dublin's Croke Park on July 24, before taking to London's Wembley Stadium on August 14, Glasgow's Hampden Park on August 18 and Sheffield's Don Valley stadium on August 20.
The European leg of the tour, promoting the band's number one album No Line on the Horizon, will finish at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on August 22.
Other dates include their opening gig at the Nou Camp Stadium in Barcelona on June 30, as well as shows in Milan, Gothenburg, Amsterdam, Paris, Nice, Chorzow, Berlin and Gelsenkirchen.
The band will then move its massive entourage to North America for a string of concerts beginning at Chicago's Soldier Field on September 12.
Glasvegas, Elbow, Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol and Black Eyed Peas are among the support acts confirmed for the tour.
Long-time U2 show director Willie Williams has worked again with architect Mark Fisher, who was behind the visual spectaculars of ZooTV, PopMart, Elevation and Vertigo, to create the 360 degree, unobstructed view, stage design.
The tour is the band's first stadium outing since the Vertigo concerts in 2005 and 2006.

The tickets might have been resonably priced when U2 originally announed the tour. However with promoters and agencies getting most tickets, and non U2 fans cashing in, and charging an Admin fee of between £50 and £100 pounds, the average price is well over a hundred and fifty pounds per ticket. With travel, food and the merchandise £300 plus, this would have to be a once a year treat for most people, but not me.

U2 need to wake up! For the first time in I don't know how long, I wont even be attempting to get tickets for this concert (I never thought I'd say that)- And I'm sure I'm not alone. I've bought every album ever released, and tried to get tickets for the every Dublin gig but never got them. Perhaps if they showed their home fans some respect and put on a decent number of shows it would be easier. Announcing a single Dublin date and then reluctantly a second is such a slap in the face. I'd actually prefer not to have to drive 100 miles from Belfast to see them but the Northern Ireland fans are obviously even less important. I know this post just sounds like wine but Im just sick of the same routine every time!

Churlish Dubai Dan? How do you come to that assumption?
I wholeheartedly agree with Chris. U2 owe it to their fans. To throw a Gig for free. Its well over due.
Perhaps it is you, that is the sullen, ill-bred, ignorant Philistine here. Enough of the verbal gymnastics.
As you say Chris away the boys

With the prices U2 is charging for concerts in the USA, Bono and his brothers must think all of their fans are AIG executives that have received million dollar bonuses.
Shame on AIG. Shame on U2.

My name is Jen and I am from Boston, Ma. I tried to purchase tickets today for th upcoming u2 concert at Gillettte Stadium. I was shocked to see that they all have been purchased by these private agencies and are being sold for big bucks. Although, I think the band is awesome, and I am a true fan, how does one obtain tickets for such a show without paying such high prices. I would love to see them!

It makes a great headline but try buying a ticket for any of the tour dates under £200!! It may have helped to let the fans know how to get hold of one of the 10,000 £27.00 tickets. I guess all the big ticket companies know.
