U2 summer tour beats Jacko record

Monday, 23 March 2009

Irish rockers U2 have started sinking down the UK album charts after hitting the number one spot last week — although the record-breaking demand for U2 concert tickets shows the band is still in high demand.

no Line On The Horizon was top of the charts last Sunday, but this week it has slipped to a lowly sixth position. Bono was replaced by another Irishman, Ronan Keating, whose Songs For My Mother entered at number one, while Annie Lennox stayed in the second spot with The Collection.

However, U2 are still celebrating — after smashing Michael Jackson's world record for the fastest-selling tour ticket sales ever.

The Irish band sold around 650,000 tickets for their U2360 summer tour between 8am and 5pm on Friday, at speeds of up to 112-a-second.

Meanwhile, Lady GaGa last night scored her second UK number one single with Poker Face, ten weeks since the single entered the charts.

Twenty million fans bid for Led Zeppelin comeback tickets

LONDON (AFP) — About 20 million fans have tried to get tickets for Led Zeppelin's one-off comeback concert, a spokesman for the gig said Thursday.

The rock legends are reforming for a tribute concert at London's O2 Arena on November 26. The former Millennium Dome venue in Greenwich can hold up to 20,000 people.

These facts are so wrong! MJ sold 1 million tickets!!!

Wasn't Michaels "111 per second"?? So U2's "UP TO 112 per second" smells a little bit like jealousy to me! Just a little to close for comfort and believability (if that's a real word)

Also the figures just don't add up! U2's 650,000 tickets sold in 8 hours equates to;

81,250 per hour
1,354 per minute
23 per second

The media always report false facts.

Michael Jackson still holds the record for the fastest selling tickets ever! The demand was so high tickmaster broke down! And Michael sold pre sale tickets wed and fri was general. Also Michael sold 1 million tickets - U2 sold 650,000 tickets.

It's still not fastest I think. Jackson's general ticket sales sold out in less than 4 to 5 hours in one day. And that's because Ticketmaster was not working properly.
