Cirque du Soleil is celebrating its 20th year at the Royal Albert Hall featuring a predominantly female cast for the first time.

The new show, titled Amaluna, will premiere in January 2016, and has never been seen before in the UK.

Directed by Tony Award-winning director, Diane Paulus, female performers make up 70% (32 out of 46) of the cast.

Additionally, all members of the band for the show are also women.

Paulus said: "I didn't want to build a 'women's agenda' show."

"I wanted to create a show with women at the centre of it, something that had a hidden story that featured women as the heroines."

The show also features two British performers, David Rimmer, 24, and Marissa King, 24.
