No place like home for Voice star Leah with debut single

By Amanda Ferguson

It's inspired by Northern Ireland – and looks set to be a chart-topper.

Newtownabbey singer Leah McFall is hoping to become a big star with the release of her debut single.

The Voice 2013 runner-up is finally making her bid for music industry success with a track entitled Home.

The upbeat love letter to Northern Ireland, featuring Leah's mentor will.i.am, is released on July 27 and her fans – or Giants, as they are affectionately known – are busy pre-ordering the single.

It has been a whirlwind year for the 25-year-old since she scored a UK top 10 with a cover of I Will Survive during The Voice and came second to Pomeroy woman Andrea Begley in the BBC competition to find a chart-topper.

She has just finished supporting Jessie J on her latest tour.

"Jessie gave me real girl-to-girl advice." Leah said.

"She is so encouraging of my voice."

Leah told the Belfast Telegraph while she was nervous about the release of Home she was more excited than anything and did not feel under pressure to reach a particular position in the charts.

"It's my first single so I am quite nervous but the response has really floored me," Leah said.

"I have very faithful support. All the wee tweets I get, I love it."

After the The Voice Leah was flown to Los Angeles with Will to sign to Capitol Records, and with 30 tracks under her belt "we thought we better release something".

"Home stood out from the minute it was written," Leah said.

"This last year has been insane. I have got to travel the world but there is no wee place like home.

"It is lovely to be able to dedicate it to Northern Ireland and my friends and family.

"It's a real upbeat, feelgood song and a nice wee introduction to the album."

Leah's debut album – Weird To Wonderful – is due to be released this autumn, most likely in October.

"Will always says you need to create your own world and invite people in, so we are ready and I'm saying 'mon on in'."

You can pre-order Home now.
