Then Jerico's fame was fleeting even by 1980s standards, yet thanks to a fervent nostalgia for vintage pop-rock, the group is still performing some 24 years after their last major hit.

The classic line-up has reformed for a UK tour, but the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival had booked the core trio of vocalist Mark Shaw, guitarist Scott Taylor and bassist Jasper Stainthorpe for a brace of shows at the weekend.

Following an 'In the Round' event the previous evening, the threesome squeezed in an acoustic set in the Holiday Inn on Saturday afternoon.

Shaw – who still has the looks and the voice that sent many a teenage girl wild back in the day – was good-humoured about the band's reduced circumstances.

The band proceeded to knock out stripped-down versions of their chart singles Let Her Fall, Muscle Deep, Sugar Box, The Motive (Living without You) and Big Area, as well as a few strong album tracks.

There weren't a lot of people at the gig, but those who were there seemed to be huge fans.
