Album: Max Tundra, Parallax Error Beheads You, (Domino)

Electronic oddball Ben Jacobs has been in hiding in the six years since the last Max Tundra album, with just the odd remix to remind us he's still alive.

'Parallax Error Beheads You' sounds like a previously unimaginable hybrid of Steely Dan and Scritti Politti, or a compendium of 1970s kids' TV themes gone berserk, except with a modern vocabulary of eBay, iPods and Myspace. It's so hyper-melodic that it almost flips over into being dissonant and tuneless... but not quite. Mr and Mrs Tundra can be very proud of their boy.

Pick of the album: Worth it for the title alone: 'Will Get Fooled Again'

Writing stories gives you an opportunity to explore different ways of life without abandoning your own comfortable niche. Keep your project secret until you're satisfied with the results. A critic could take the wind out of your sails.More
