Review: The Stars From The Commitments

Odyssey Arena, Belfast

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Commitments, the movie's stars brought their reunion tour to Belfast's Odyssey Arena last night.

Director Alan Parker has poured scorn on the ‘comeback', but the 16-piece band burst onto the stage regardless to deliver a soulful St Patrick's Day party.

While many of the musical film's stars have remained in show business, this tour is the first time the full cast have performed together in two decades.

While giving the two-hour extravaganza their all, it was singer Andrew Strong who stole the show, just as he did all those years ago. The Dubliner's throaty howl lent a raw edge to proceedings, and his charismatic presence kept the audience's energy levels high.
