Old Flat Top Music is presenting a not-to-be-missed triple bill for Jazz and Blues fans at the Black Box this evening.

Under the collective title, Old Heads-Young Shoulders, tonight’s line-up — which includes Grainne Duffy’s (pictured) eponymous band, the David Lyttle Three (with Alex Mathias on sax) and The Deans — represents the New Generation of Jazz and Blues.

These genres may be regarded as the soundtrack of an aging generation, but have stood the test of time.

Old Heads-Young Shoulders offers a showcase for three groups of young musicians who have fluxed their own original ideas with classic influences, creating new material with fresh yet familiar sounds (www.oldflattop.com ).

Congratulations to top Irish harp and guitar duo, Maire Ni Chathasaigh and Chris Newman, on the recent success of their album, FireWire, which was voted Best Celtic Instrumental Album in the 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards in Nashville.

Over 42,000 albums from 160 countries were screened for these awards — the largest music awards of any kind anywhere.

You can catch the duo at Downpatrick’s Down Arts Centre tomorrow and at Londonderry’s Playhouse on Sunday.
