Adam Levine: Compassion is essential

Adam Levine

Adam Levine is committed to "being respectful" when he communes with people.

The Maroon 5 frontman and US The Voice coach was honoured Wednesday at the GQ Gentlemen's Ball for his charity work with Los Angeles Children's Hospital's Teen Impact programme.

Adam believes a true gentleman possesses a few key character traits.

"I think some amount of consciousness about the world around you is an important thing," he told ET Online on the red carpet at the event.

"Being compassionate and being respectful... it's good to be aware."

Adam has started filming the fourth season of The Voice.

Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green have left the show, but Adam extends a warm welcome to new panelists Shakira and Usher.

"It's going good -- it's going very, very well," he said.

"We're showing them the ropes. It's hard because you know, we're missing our two family members. But it's still really great. They're fantastic."

The new season of The Voice premieres next spring.
