Adam Sandler relives cheetah attack
Adam Sandler's encounter with a cheetah went a "bit wrong" when the big cat tried to eat him.
The comedian appeared on US talk show Late Show with David Letterman earlier this week, where he shared tales from his recent trip to South Africa.
Adam was there to shoot his new movie Blended with Drew Barrymore, and on one of his days off, took a safari trip with his family.
He was attacked while on a private game reserve, after his encounter with the big cat went "a bit wrong".
"I did it all [on safari]. My kids said the giraffes in Africa were more fun than the ones we have at home, that I bought them for the backyard, and taller," Adam told host David.
"I did have one incident where I hung out with some lions and yes, they let me get out the jeep and hang out with lions but not tigers, they are only in Asia, did you know that? So I hung out with lions and cheetahs. This is a true story; they let me in with a cheetah. They said I could feed the cheetah water with my hands. So I did it and it went a little bit wrong."
Adam then showed a video of the cheetah attack. In the clip, the actor looks cool, calm and collected as the big cat pounces on him from behind. He admitted the reason for his lack of action was down to a stiff neck, rather than any bravery.
"Yeah, I played it off real good. What happened was, they said you're not supposed to bend down low with the water," he explained.
"I was very nervous. It was fast. The only reason I didn't react... [was that] I had a stiff neck at the time. So when he jumped on me, I was like, 'Oh, my neck'. All I was going to do was let him eat me. There was not one part of me that was going to fight back. I was like, 'Alright, this is how I'm dying. This is great!' Luckily the woman handled it. She said that the cheetah was her best friend; she sleeps with that cheetah in her bed. After, my friends were like, 'You handled that like a bad ass!' But the truth is that I had a bad neck."
