Kelly Adams has admitted she relished the chance to dress down for her role in new TV show Bluestone 42.
The Hustle actress is swapping her heels for combat boots in the new army sitcom about a bomb disposal unit in Afghanistan, in which she plays padre Major Rev Mary Greenstock.
Kelly - who spent four years playing flawless beauty Emma Kennedy in Hustle - said: "Mary didn't have to be very beautiful. She's very practical, hair tied back, not loads of make-up, not trying to be sexy.
"The costume department said at the beginning they were going to nip in all her waists and give her chicken fillets and I was like, 'Oh no no no, I just want my hair slapped back and to play it real'."
Filming took place in South Africa where the cast bonded, on and off set.
"It was blistering heat and we weren't allowed to wear sunglasses, so you just looked minging in every scene," said Kelly, 33.
"But that set was absolutely our base. We didn't have anyone go off to their trailer, we all sweated it out together."
:: Bluestone 42 starts on BBC Three on Tuesday, March 5.
