Aguilera: My marriage was unhappy

Christina Aguilera has talked about her unhappy marriage

Christina Aguilera has told how her relationship with husband Jordan Bratman had become "unhealthy and unhappy".

The 29-year-old Burlesque star, who filed for divorce from the music executive last month after almost five years of marriage, told People magazine she decided that separating from Jordan was the best thing for their two-year-old son Max.

Christina said: "Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it. I really didn't want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our family up.

"When you're unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer. That's the last thing I wanted for my son."

The Dirrty singer has spoken in the past about her own parents' turbulent relationship, which ended in divorce when she was seven, and how it affected her.

Since splitting from Jordan, Christina has been spotted partying with Matthew Rutler, who was a set assistant on her new movie Burlesque.

She said: "He's the kind of person you could spend hours with on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it's daylight."
