Alba: I was a control freak

Jessica Alba says she has learned to “roll with the punches” with parenthood.

The actress has two children with husband Cash Warren – Honor, five, and Haven, two.

According to Jessica, the reality of family life meant she had to give up certain notions of how things should be.

"I was much more of a control freak before, probably," she told Us Weekly. "You kind of have to roll with the punches and be a little more easygoing with parenthood. I was like, 'I'll never have toys in my living room!' Yeah, right."

The 32-year-old has learned to be more relaxed about things like clutter, and focuses instead on enjoying her kids.

Jessica attempts to keep things somewhat under control by making her kids donate an old toy to charity every time they get something new – even if they aren’t always happy about it.

"Good luck with that one," she laughed. "Even hand-me-down dollies and hand-me-down dresses that my daughter [Honor] gets from her cousin -- I'm like, 'Okay, it's time for you to take something and hand it down to your sister.' And she wants no part of that."

Motherhood also inspired Jessica to start The Honest Company, which focuses on eco-friendly goods. According to the actress, an early incident with Honor scared her enough to want to have all-natural products.

"My kid's diaper exploded. All of a sudden, these beads were in her mouth," Jessica explained. "And I was calling my mom, and I was like, 'What happened? What do I do? What is this made out of?' I called my pediatrician. I called 911. I completely freaked out."
