Alexander Skarsgard channelled his inner Tarzan as he presented the MTV Movie Awards' Movie of the Year gong wearing a tuxedo jacket... and no trousers.

Alexander Skarsgard stunned fans as he took to the stage at the MTV Movie Awards in his underwear.

The 39-year-old Swedish actor is certainly no stranger to shedding his clothes, thanks to his former role in hit series True Blood and the upcoming movie Tarzan.

As he took to the stage at the star-studded ceremony on Saturday (09Apr16), Alexander decided to keep his fans happy by wearing a tuxedo jacket and no trousers.

"No pants. Me, Tarzan! Gotta give the fans a little skin," he said. "I was going to go shirtless, but then someone told me that Zac Efron did that two years ago here."

Alexander's co-presenter Samuel L. Jackson, who helped him hand the gong for Movie of the Year to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, added: "It was a historic moment."

The pair was of course referencing the famous moment Neighbors 2 star Zac stripped off after winning the Best Shirtless Performance gong at the 2014 awards.

Alexander continued: "It's just as sexy, but a little bit classier, and dare I say, more sophisticated? No offence, Mr. Efron."

Zac was in the audience during the ceremony, but his reaction to the joke has yet to be seen.

The 28-year-old actor will continue flaunting his incredible physique, with his next role seeing him play a lifeguard in the big-screen adaptation of TV series Baywatch.

On Saturday night, Zac was joined by girlfriend Sami Miro as they enjoyed a romantic date night at the awards, held at the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank, California.

At one point, the actor was seen chivalrously giving his date a piggy back as her stiletto heels became a bit too painful to bear.

Zac also took to the stage alongside Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates co-star Anna Kendrick and Adam DeVine to present the award for Breakthrough Performance to Star Wars star Daisy Ridley.

Picking up the gong, Daisy told the crowd: "It feels especially amazing to be part of a film that represents all genders – two genders – all races and all ages in a positive way."
