Alicia Keys raised more than a million US dollars (£623,000) for her charity while honouring Oprah Winfrey for her humanitarian efforts at an event in New York on Thursday night.

Alicia's Keep A Child Alive charity celebrated its annual Black Ball - dubbed Black Ball Redux - at the Apollo Theatre. The RnB singer performed alongside Bonnie Raitt, Jennifer Hudson, Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes and Angelique Kidjo, who was also honoured.

Alicia raised about 1.3 million US dollars (£809,000) from pledges and auctions. A million dollars came from billionaire Stewart Rahr.

Keep A Child Alive assists those affected by HIV/Aids in Africa and India. Oprah launched the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in neighbouring South Africa in 2007. She says she was honoured to receive an award from Alicia, and that it confirms she's "moving in the right direction".

Pisces:

It's sometimes difficult for a retiring person like you to showcase your talent. You are tired of being eclipsed by pushy rivals. By showing your work to the right people, you can finally gain the fame and acclaim you deserve. Fortunately, an influential friend, neighbour or colleague can set up an interview or introduction. An important executive or critic will be impressed by your efforts. If you're offered an unpaid position as an intern or apprentice, take it. This will lead to professional opportunities you couldn't find through other channels.More
