Alicia Vikander: I like a clear challenge

Alicia Vikander loves to cook when she gets some rare time off.

Actress Alicia Vikander chooses parts based on how scared they make her.

The Swedish star has slowly been making a name for herself thanks to movies including Anna Karenina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E and Ex Machina. Each role has brought the 27 year old a new challenge, and that’s what she thrives on.

“It’s been everything from not working in my native language in most of my films and being an A.I. in Ex Machina,” she told The Hollywood Reporter when asked about her biggest challenge so far. “Derek Cianfrance (director of her 2016 film Light Between Oceans) works in a very specific way and had us live together in the same house for the entire shoot. I think I’ve chosen all of those projects because they have a clear challenge. Being a bit scared is what makes me interested in a project from the get-go.”

Alicia’s next test is to slot into a well-established blockbuster franchise: the Bourne series. The next instalment is set for release next year and sees Matt Damon return to the lead role of Jason Bourne.

“It’s a franchise, but I’m really enjoying myself,” she continued. “I found myself on set the other day and I was like, ‘Gasp. Oh my God, it’s one of those sets’.”

Alicia has starred alongside big names including Matt, Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley so far in her career, but she still as a list of dream actors she would like to work with.

“Mark Ruffalo and Marion Cotillard,” she said. “I think she’s amazing.”

Alicia’s work schedule is jam packed but when she does have some free time, she likes to challenge herself in the kitchen.

“I love to cook,” she added. “That’s a clear sign that I have some time off. I wake up in the morning, and I go and spend a few hours at the supermarket and find new things. I’ll be Googling trying to find new recipes. That’s a wonderful date night, to cook food.”
