Allen: I’m trying to grow up
Lily Allen has avoided booze for a month.
The Smile singer has had a hectic year, releasing her first album in five years and supporting Miley Cyrus on the American leg of her Bangerz Tour. She has been known for her partying ways in the past, but the mom-of-two has recently decided to make some changes to her lifestyle.
“I'm sober tonight. In fact, I haven't had a drink for a month,” she told British magazine Grazia at the British Fashion Awards. “It's been hard not drinking, but I'm trying to grow up. Finally.”
The 29-year-old married builder and decorator Sam Cooper in 2011. The couple have daughters Ethel Mary, three, and 23-month-old Marnie Rose. Earlier this year Lily opened up about the terrifying battle her eldest daughter faced against a disease called laryngomalacia. It left the youngster fighting for her life and she had to be fed through a tube.
"She's a mother first and foremost, and is fully aware of how lucky she is to have Ethel back to full health and Marnie so well,” an insider told Grazia back in July. “She's only just able to talk about it - it took some time for her to get her head around what was the worst time of her life.”
The couple also faced the trauma of having a still birth with their first child, a boy, back in 2010. While it’s no surprise that Lily may have wanted to let off some steam after returning to the music business, a source close to the star revealed that her family are always her top priority and are no doubt behind her latest decision to quit the booze.
“People may be thinking Lily is partying a lot more than she should, but family really comes first,” the source added at the time. “[But] she plans her career around the children and Sam.”
