Allen's hairpiece found in the bin
Keith Allen had to wear a hairpiece he discovered in a bin for his new TV drama The Runaway.
The actor and former bad boy of comedy needed to camouflage his grey, receding hairline with a more youthful look to play East End gangster Danny Dixon in the Sky1 HD drama.
The star, 57, said of the toupe: "We found it in a bin the night before we filmed.
"We had to because I'd been trapped in Europe with the volcanic ash, which meant there was no time to do the costume and wig fitting. I just grabbed it and went, 'Yeah, that'll do'."
The Runaway, the TV adaptation of crime writer Martina Cole's novel, is Keith's latest TV credit following TV shows Viva Blackpool and Bodies, and cult films Shallow Grave and Trainspotting.
But the star - also known to a new generation of fans as singer Lily's dad - said the only performance of his that he can bring himself to watch is his portrayal of the Sheriff of Nottingham in BBC One's Robin Hood series "because it was cartoon, panto villain".
