Amanda Bynes has slammed unflattering photos of her which appear online, saying she has an eating disorder and so struggles to stay slim.

The troubles actress has been in the headlines recently after debuting a new image, which includes piercings in her cheeks.

Her mental health has been called into question after she was seen looking dishevelled and began posting bizarre messages on Twitter.

Yesterday, a family insider told In Touch magazine Amanda has been resisting help from loved ones and the star has now hit back at the reports and also slammed people who publicly criticise her weight.

"They take pictures anytime I've gained weight then write a fake story!" she wrote on Twitter.

"I have an eating disorder so I have a hard time staying thin."

The star also ranted about how much she hates the images which are usually published of her. She would rather publications only use the pictures she has posted on her Twitter account as she knows they are of good quality.

Amanda, 27, recently opened up about her weight, claiming she is on a mission to slim down. The star has relocated recently and claimed the change in her circumstances was helping her.

"I moved to New York City and I love it," she is quoted as saying. "I lost 4lbs. since I moved. I'm 121lbs. My goal is 100lbs. I gain weight quickly so I need to work out constantly."

Amanda hit the headlines last year after a string of brushes with the law, including being charged with a hit-and-run and Driving Under the Influence.

More recently she has caused concern due to the messages she's been writing on Twitter. She blasted former boyfriends on the website and also penned an obscene message to musician Drake.

In Touch magazine claims her family have been tirelessly trying to reach out to her.

"She’s completely resisting any help that her family wants to give her," an insider told the publication.
