Amy Adams: I hid behind characters
Amy Adams grew "bored" of playing similar characters in films.
The 39-year-old actress had her breakthrough as ditzy princess Giselle in 2007 Disney movie Enchanted. Since then she has dived into more intense roles such as Charlene Fleming in The Fighter and more recently con-woman Sydney Prosser in American Hustle, both directed by David O. Russell.
Speaking about her transition into these deeper characters, Amy admits she initially felt too vulnerable to let herself take on such parts.
"It's been a progression for me. I used to be much more protective of my feelings - playing vulnerable, joyful characters was sort of a shield for me," she explained to British magazine Look.
"But I began to see how limiting that was. I needed to start taking more chances and being more fearless. I grew bored with repeating myself in lighter roles. Even though that's more my own nature, I'm actually attracted to darker characters."
Amy gave birth to her and fiancé Darren Le Gallo's daughter Aviana in 2010. Since becoming a mother, the redheaded beauty is more careful about how she acts around her tot after a day at work.
"Because I have a daughter, I try not to take home my characters. With American Hustle, as Aviana has started to understand more and more, I didn't want to confuse her by coming home and behaving any differently," she explained.
Amy and Darren have been together for over 12 years now. She admits her busy schedule has made it difficult for the pair to set a date to tie the knot, but she promises the special day will take place.
"So am I!" she laughed when told people are waiting for her to get married. "Darren and I have been planning it for five years but whenever we've got close, I've always been working on a film. It's going to happen though!"
