Andie MacDowell skipped Cannes one year because she was afraid of being slammed by critics for her weight.

The stunning 57-year-old Magic Mike XXL actress shares three children with her ex-husband Paul Qualley.

Andie gave birth to her daughter Rainey in 1990 and at the time her pregnancy weight made the star wary of attending huge red carpet events.

“You know Sex, Lies, and Videotape won here and I didn’t come because I had just had my daughter, and I was nursing her and really round and I was afraid people would make fun of me,” she told Page Six at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

Fortunately Andie doesn’t make such a fuss over other people’s opinions anymore.

The actress feels her choice not to go might have been incited by youthful insecurities.

“I know that was stupid. Now in hindsight, because I’ve matured and I’m older, I don’t really care what people say,” she noted.

Andie’s daughters Rainey and Margaret are both actresses. Rainey has appeared in Mad Men and Margaret on HBO series The Leftovers.

But Andie doesn’t interfere with her childrens’ careers, as she prefers they make their own decisions about work.

“I try to stay out of their way; they’re really independent,” she said. “They’re very independent, they’re their own people. I think what I’ve taught them they’ve really taken. They have really good work ethics. I have a really good work ethic. I’m on time, I’m appreciative, I give one hundred per cent and I don’t complain.”

Andie, who is a brand ambassador for L’Oreal along with Jane Fonda, visited Cannes to promote the makeup company.

And the gorgeous brunette loved every moment she got to spend with Jane.

“That was a blast and she’s gorgeous and an inspiration. She’s 77. She looks amazing. So I’m happy, I’m thankful, I’m always living gratitude,” Andie gushed.
