Andie MacDowell single and proud
Andie MacDowell doesn't mind being single because she can do what she likes.
The 55-year-old has been married twice, with her first marriage to Paul Qualley ending in 1999.
She wed businessman Rhett Hartzog in 2001, but they divorced less than three years later. Andie is now relishing the time she can spend on herself.
"I don't need a man to be happy," she grinned to German magazine Meins. "At the moment, I'm enjoying being by myself. I'm happy being single. I can do what I want and that's great!"
Andie and Paul had three children during their time together - son Justin and daughters Rainey and Sarah. The actress says it's her family that keeps her happy.
"When my kids make me laugh. Those are my happiest moments," she smiled.
The Groundhog Day star also opened up about her own childhood. It wasn't a harmonious time, as her mother struggled with addiction.
"I was six when my parents divorced," she recalled. "My mother suffered with depression and was an alcoholic. I was someone for my mother to lean on, I was caught up in her world and the perfect co-alcoholic. Thanks to self-help groups and therapy, I learnt how to deal with it."
Andie is busy with TV drama Cedar Cove, which premieres its second season in July. Despite her hectic schedule she looks great, and the star shared her secrets.
"I eat well. I'm a vegetable junkie!" she enthused. "And I need eight, nine hours of sleep. But for me, beauty is about a person's presence. When someone has a beautiful soul and is at peace with themselves, that shines through."
