Angie: Brad and I wed before France
Angelina Jolie has admitted she and Brad Pitt were officially husband and wife before their wedding in France.
The famed couple had their formal marriage ceremony at their lush estate in Correns, France, on August 23 last year. Now the 39-year-old Unbroken director has revealed they officially became husband and wife in California prior to the big day.
"Before the wedding in France with the kids, Brad and I were already married in California," Angelina recently told Italian magazine Io Donna, as reported by Us Weekly. "As Americans, we couldn't marry legally in France."
It was previously claimed the pair got a marriage license before heading to France, handed over by a Californian judge. Now Angelina has said they in fact signed the papers and made their nuptials legal back in the United States.
But it wasn’t a dramatic affair, with Brad and Angie saving anything extravagant for France.
"One day I said to Brad, 'Let's meet up at 4:30 pm?' I called a justice of the peace and we signed the documents," she explained to the publication.
The couple have been together for ten years and engaged since 2012. Together they have six children, and Angelina recently confessed that marriage changed things even though their family was established prior to it.
“It does feel different. It feels nice to be husband and wife,” she told Vanity Fair magazine.
Brad and Angelina’s kids were very much involved in their parents’ special day. They drew designs on Angelina’s veil and even helped write their vows.
“They did not expect us never to fight, but they made us promise to always say, ‘Sorry,’ if we do. So they said, ‘Do you?’ and we said, ‘We do!’” she recalled.
