Anne Hathaway is reportedly in the process of adopting a baby.

The 32-year-old actress has made no secret of her desire to have a family with her spouse Adam Shulman, who she wed in 2012. It’s now been claimed the couple’s wish is about to become a reality, as they are in the final stages of the adoption process.

“Anne is so happy and nervous. She can’t quite believe it’s so close to becoming reality. It’s truly a blessing, and she and Adam can’t stop talking about it,” a source told the American edition of OK! magazine.

The pair are always said to have wanted to adopt, although they hope to have biological children too. It’s suggested they have been trying to fall pregnant for some time, but it hasn’t been as easy as Anne initially hoped.

“There have been some very frustrating, heart-breaking moments. Anne was convinced that being so healthy and having a vegan diet meant that it would happen immediately, but that just wasn’t the case. They’ve seen fertility doctors and tried alternative medicine, and nothing seemed to work,” the insider claimed.

As they had always wanted to give another child a home, Anne and Adam are said to have realised adoption could work for them.

They are now thrilled about the prospect of parenthood and are reportedly planning to move back to New York from the West Coast so their child can enjoy the culture of the city. Relocating would also mean Anne is close to her mother Kate, who will be able to give her a lot of support.

Although there is no news on the sex of the tot, the little one will apparently hail from the States.

“Anne said she wanted their first child to be American because she wants to help needy children here. But adopting from overseas is definitely something she and Adam would consider in the future,” the source explained.

Last year Anne spoke about how much she was looking forward to having a baby, something she’s thought about for over a decade.

“I’ve wanted to be a mom since I was 16. But I also wanted to have a career, so I have been chomping at the bit to be a mother for a really long time,” she explained.

“I also had to find a baby daddy first - which I now have.”
