Judd Apatow gets "sad" when he works far from home.
The Academy Award-nominated comedic director-and-screenwriter and his wife actress Leslie Mann are parents to two daughters: Maude, 14, and Iris, eight.
Judd was able to film his new comedy This Is 40, a sequel to Knocked Up, in his real-life Los Angeles neighbourhood.
ET Online reports that he appreciated the opportunity to work so near to his family.
"It's sad that so much production leaves California," Judd joked at The LA Times' The Envelope Screening Series.
"I make up ways to make it seem wrong to go out of state. I always try to think of how to stay close to the house. The kids go to school, I don't like taking them to Louisiana."
Judd found other bonuses in working near to the family abode.
He was able to relieve himself easily.
"It was very fun to be close by, because you could go home to poop," Judd laughed.
Jude's daughters Maude and Iris appear in This Is 40 as bickering siblings.
The comedy will be released in US theatres next week.
