A TV captioning service has apologised for misidentifying screen star Zooey Deschanel as one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects on a news broadcast.

Caption Solutions said it and its captioner "deeply regret" the mistake in Texas. Company president Kala J Patterson said the business "sincerely apologises for this error".

The erroneous onscreen text appeared during coverage by the Fox network affiliate KDFW in Dallas-Fort Worth of Friday's manhunt for a bombing suspect. It read: "Marathon Bomber. He is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel."

The suspect was 19-year-old university student Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who later was arrested and taken to hospital.

Deschanel, star of TV comedy New Girl and a series of films, learned of the TV captioning blunder over the weekend and tweeted: "Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL!"

Gemini:

You are being overly critical of your best friend or romantic partner. Even if you think their plans are ill founded, you should keep such thoughts to yourself. Undermining a person's enthusiasm will only create resentment. If you're tired of being implicated in your loved one's harebrained schemes, have a heart to heart discussion. A temporary separation can help each of you figure out what you want from your relationship. It may be time for you to seek a more practical companion.More
