Applegate: Cancer was bittersweet
Christina Applegate claims she still suffers from “physical issues” following her bout with breast cancer.
The 42-year-old Anchorman 2 actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008.
Following her subsequent double mastectomy she has been free of the disease for years, but the operation has had lasting effects on her psyche.
"It was bittersweet. You know that you are caught early, but you still have to have surgery that leaves you different for the rest of your life,” she told British newspaper The Independent.
“It's not an easy process. Even five and a half years later I'm still having some physical issues because of it. You are constantly reminded of it, every day, you wake up and think, yep, that happened to me."
Christina is mother to daughter Sadie, two, with her musician husband Martyn LeNoble.
The actress puts work behind family and Christina is currently on a professional sabbatical.
"The motherhood part and how that changes your priorities, and how it changes your drive, all of that is incredibly relatable to how I feel now that I'm a mom,” she explained.
"It's now about quality of work, not quantity. For me to take a role, it has to be good enough for me to leave my kid for a day."
Christina believes Sadie is developing great skills as an entertainer.
But although the precocious toddler is showing signs of acting talent, Christina doesn’t want her daughter to follow in her footsteps so early in life.
"I don't want that for Sadie, no," the former child star stated.
"I don't feel that it's a good idea for a young person to start getting money for a talent that is not honed. I don't want her to get stuck. I'm regretful that I didn't get to finish all the schooling that I could have had. Because a lot of child actors, historically, don't turn out great."
