Ashlee Simpson 'splits from actor'

Ashlee Simpson and Vincent Piazza

Ashlee Simpson has reportedly split from her boyfriend.

The American singer-and-actress had been dating Boardwalk Empire star Vincent Piazza for around 18 months. It's been claimed they decided to go their separate ways over the Thanksgiving holiday last week, after they realised it was becoming increasingly hard for them to spend any time together.

"Vincent has been working a lot, so he hasn't been able to spend as much time with Ashlee, which has caused some problems. It was a mutual agreement to split, but things have been bumpy for a little while, so perhaps they might reconcile," an insider told New York Post.

The couple were thought to be serious, with reports earlier this year suggesting Ashlee was considering relocating to New York so she could be with Vincent.

Ashlee, 28, has four-year-old son Bronx Mowgli with her ex-husband Pete Wentz and apparently felt a move to the east coast from Los Angeles would also be good for the tot.

"Ashlee is completely smitten with Vincent, and she's willing to pull up roots to be with him. They're already talking about marriage and even having a baby together," an insider previously said.

Neither Ashlee nor Vincent has commented on the report.

Ashlee's family have been going through a rough time of late, following her parents Joe and Tina's announcement that they are splitting after a 24-year marriage. There were allegations Joe had told his family he was gay, with the family's representative saying: "It is an amicable split, and there is no third party involved."
