Ashley Benson: Why I avoid drugs
Ashley Benson insists she will never be "out of control" in her life.
The 24-year-old actress demonstrates reckless behaviour in her 2012 movie Spring Breakers, which sees her play troubled teenager Brit.
In a candid interview with the March issue of US magazine Cosmopolitan, Ashley has opened up about avoiding substances in real-life as she grew up in Hollywood, where drugs are very prevalent.
"There are drugs and alcohol in my family on both sides, so I've seen lives ruined, going to jail and all that," she confessed.
"Once you start with any drug, it can be an addiction - that's why I never want to start and am not even tempted, because that chain is relentless. And if it runs in your family, you see how unglamorous it is. I would never want to be out of control with my body."
The blonde beauty and her co-stars - Selena Gomez, Rachel Korine and Vanessa Hudgens - wear bikinis for a majority of the movie. However, when it comes to bearing all for the camera, Ashley is determined to avoid feeling pressured.
"I never want to do nudity that's gratuitous. Girls look so much better in lingerie or a T-shirt and leave the rest up to the imagination," she explained.
"I make it clear that I have a line. Everyone tries to push you, and it's easy to get talked into doing those things. I'll just walk off-set. But not everyone realises they can do that."
Ashley has an on/off relationship with boyfriend Ryan Good, who she dated for a year before filming Spring Breakers.
Although it is unclear where they currently stand, the young actress sticks by her choice to initially end things.
"Ryan is one of the strongest people I've met, so grounded and such a positive influence on people. We took a break because it was so hard," she admitted. "I work 20 hour days, so I'm always gone. So a lot of your relationship is on the phone and iChatting and trying to catch up."
