Ashton Kutcher's spoof promo pulled
Ashton Kutcher's spoof dating promo has been pulled offline after it was deemed racist.
The actor stars in an online advertising campaign for Popchips, which sees him playing an Indian Bollywood producer named Raj. Ashton dons brown make-up and puts on an accent to reveal he is "looking for love".
The images and video were removed from media sharing websites after being criticised by viewers.
Ashton takes on a number of other personas in the promo - including a tattooed man and a fashionista - all of which have remained online for public consumption.
According to the Associated Press, a spokeswoman for Popchips insists the ads were meant to be taken in a light-hearted tone and was "created to provoke a few laughs and was never intended to stereotype or offend anyone."
The representative for the chips company also added that the company hopes "people can enjoy this in the spirit it was intended."
A representative for Ashton has yet to comment on the criticism.
